Make-A-Wish Update – 8th Annual Charity Week

Make-A-Wish Trip to Disney World

Austin and his family meet Goofy on their Make-A-Wish  trip to Disney World

With your help, Allied’s 8th Annual Charity Week, held back in December, raised more than $18,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Humane Society. In the end, Make-A-Wish received a check for $9,414.83 to help fund the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Our long-standing relationship with Make-A-Wish has allowed us to be a part of many wishes over the years, but we are equally excited every time we hear how our donations have helped to grant children and their families the experience of a lifetime.

A few days ago, we received a letter from Karen Traten, Director of Partnerships & Communication for Make-A-Wish Philadelphia & Susquehanna Valley, letting us know exactly where our Charity Week donations went to work this year.

Austin of Hershey, Pennsylvania, a nine-year-old currently battling cancer, wished to take his family on a vacation to Disney World.

Lily of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, right down the street from Allied’s headquarters in Collegeville, wished for a room makeover. She is four years old and was granted her wish while bravely fighting a circulatory disease.

We truly hope Lily and Austin enjoyed their special wishes! We couldn’t be more honored to have been a part of them.

The letter not only told us about these wishes, but also included some amazing statistics regarding the wide-reaching benefits of a wish. These were some of the staggering percentages included in their Wish Impact Study:

  • 89% of doctors, nurses, and social workers believe the wish experience can influence wish kid’s physical health
  • 81% of parents observe an increased willingness by their wish kids to comply with treatment protocols
  • 96% of parents said the wish experience strengthened their families
  • 97% of adult former wish kids report improved mental and emotional health because of their wish experiences and 79% believe it helped their recovery
  • 87% of adult former wish kids say their wish experience gave them the courage to pursue opportunities that were difficult or impossible before they received their wish

Allied is happy to support such a wonderful cause that not only offers hope to children in need of it, but that works alongside traditional medical treatment to improve the mental, emotional, and even physical well-being of the patient, and also gives joy and strength to their families. Thank you, Make-A-Wish, for doing so much for so many people. Here’s to many more years working together to make wishes come true!
