Price Increase Alert—Southwire/Tappan

Price Increase AlertWe’re sorry to say it’s not an April Fools’ joke; starting April 1st, 2014, you can expect to see a 3% increase on electronic products from Southwire.

Southwire’s explanation of the price increase is two-fold.  First, they cite significant non-metal material price increases—on everything from reels to plasticizers. We have seen these increases affect pricing across the industry, including changes as recent as General Cable’s March 10th increase on Carol Brand portable cord products. Over the past 12 months, there have been market-wide price increases on the following raw materials:

  • PVC Resin +6%
  • Freight +8%
  • Reels +26%
  • Carbon Black +2%
  • LDPE +9%
    • HDPE +13%
    • Peroxide +3%
    • Tinned Strand +4%
    • Plasticizers +1%
    • Packaging +9%

Southwire also asks you to understand that though copper prices have recently dropped, their current inventory was purchased at higher rates, and pricing needs to cover costs.

Want to take advantage of current pricing on Southwire, Coleman and Tappan electronic products? There’s still time. Contact your sales rep or submit an RFQ to Allied Wire to get your order in before prices go up.
