Cat5e OSP Cable Now Available from Allied!

Cat5e outdoor plant cables (OSP cables) are now part of Allied’s catalog of data cables.

These cables are built with solid bare copper conductors, and are designed to resist the environmental hazards to be expected with outdoor installations in ducts or aerial lashing. To improve their environmental ruggedness, Cat5e OSP cables feature water-blocked cores and sunlight resistant rugged polyethylene jackets.

Common applications for outdoor plant cables include Ethernet, and composite, component, or digital video. They meet Cat5e electrical performance standards and ANSI/TIA-568-C.2. They are also RoHS compliant. Cat5e OSP cables are rated to 300 volts, and have temperature ranges of -45°C to +60°C.

Alpha Wire Expands EcoWire™ Product Line

Alpha Wire announced an expansion of their EcoWire product line on September 14th, called EcoWire Plus. These new products will carry the same specifications that make the original EcoWire products environmentally friendly, but specially targeted to more industrial applications.

Also constructed with  zero halogen, modified polyphenylene ether thermoplastic (mPPE) and meeting RoHS, REACH and WEEE requirements, the newest EcoWire conforms to ISO 6722 thin-and-ultra-thin-wall standards. Available in 28 AWG to 10 AWG sizes with stranded bare copper conductors, it carries a temperature range of -40°C to +110°C. Like the original, EcoWire Plus is abrasion resistant. However, unlike the original, it is also fluid resistant and can withstand oils, fuels, solvents and more. This allows the cable to work in much more hazardous locations typical to industrial environments, all while remaining environmentally friendly.

HellermannTyton Introduces Solar Labels

HellermannTyton debuted their latest product, Solar Installation Labels last month.  These labels are pre-printed and follow the recent changes to the NEC code for PV systems in regard to the labels’ durability, color, how the text is printed and its visibility.

Manufactured with UV resistant inks, permanent adhesive and durable substrate, these labels can handle the harshest environments for both large and small solar installations.  The adhesive can bond to both enamel baked paint and powder coating, and a special secondary laminate coating can be manually placed over the label for extra protection.

HellermannTyton’s line of labels include the following types:

• Reflective: for Main Service Disconnect, DC Conduit, Raceways, Enclosures and Junction Boxes. Also available is a special Reflective Rooftop label, which can be applied to most shingles.
• Rating: Includes AC and DC Voltage and Disconnect, and can be printed with variable information.
• Continuous Vinyl: These labels are stocked and available in rolls, for use with one of HellermannTyton’s printers that has an attached cutter.

Isotec Offers Ferrite Insulated SIMTRA™ Cables for Communication Systems

Isotec, Inc announced a new product line of power cables designed to eliminate nearly all interference between cables bundled together.  Using their own patented ferrite barrier technology, Isotec’s SIMTRA™ cables have a layer of ferrite that surrounds each conductor, which protects the signal from any other conductors nearby.  This means that SIMTRA™ cables can be bundled tightly together in a single run, instead of having to do separate runs for networking, A/V, fire alarm and security systems and any other communication systems.

Isotec offers SIMTRA cables with a variety of options:

• Power Cables: 3-6 THHN/THWN conductors, which can range between 16-2 AWG, with an FR orange PVC jacket

General Cable Introduces Shore-to-Ship Cables

General Cable announced on May 18^th, a new line of shipboard cable and marine cable designed to withstand the rigors of a shipboard environment.  Their Shore2Ship™ THOF-E Shipboard Cable is meant to withstand the effects of sea water and ship motion as well as resistant to sunlight and repeated flexing.

Shore-to-Ship shipboard cables allow a vessel to “plug into” power sources while docked, so  the ships engines can turn off completely.  This means less emissions and other environmental impacts associated with the ship’s engines.  This process is referred to as “Cold Ironing,” and is the preferred emission-reducing method.

THOF-E Shipboard Cables were designed to eliminate the known problems associated with the original THOF-500 shipboard cable outlined in Mil-DTL-915/6k.  They are constructed with a 500kcmil tinned copper conductor, EPR insulation and a durable, dual layer, extruded CPE jacket.  The extrusion process causes the jacket material to fill in all the empty space in the cable’s interior, which gives the shipboard cable more durability.  THOF-E Cables are rated to 2 kV and 90°C.

Alpha Wire Now Carries Photovoltaic Wire and Solar Cable

In a press release sent out yesterday, Alpha Wire announced a new series of PV Wire and Solar Cable products targeted to the solar power market.  Manufactured to withstand the rigors of the environmental aspects of solar power applications, these PV wires and solar cables are sunlight and oil resistant with an operating temperature range of -40°C to 90°C.

The two versions of Alpha’s photovoltaic wires follow either UL 4703 PV wire/TUV 2 PFG 1169 or UL 4703 PV wire standards.  The first version that follows the UL/TUV standards is manufactured with LSZH insulation and jacket, while the UL only version has XL-PE insulation and a PVC jacket.

The TT330SM Thermal Transfer Printer is designed for smaller operations with low to medium volume label printing.
